My Big New Idea

Hey gang,

In this blog I kinda wanted to talk out some of my ideas relating to my new entrepreneurial idea. I have recently discovered that there is a lot of money to be made in the designer pocket square business. I'm not sure if you have ever bought a pocket square before, but pocket squares from major fashion labels cost as much at $60! $60 for a single tiny piece of cloth!! That is why, with a little bit of capital, I can make a cheaper and more popular pocket square. A company in Syracuse that makes pocket squares could entirely corner the market. You might be wondering, "who still wears pocket squares?" The answer is: celebrities. EVERY SINGLE ESPN announcer wears a pocket square. At the Emmys every single actor will wear a pocket square. They are coming back into fashion right now in a big way.

Making cool and cheaper pocket squares isn't going to be enough though, we need to use social media effectively in order to sell our products here in Upstate New York. Because we have college e-mail addresses we can guy ads on Facebook. We could use the D.O. and sponsor a "Best Dressed Man on Campus" contest and allow people to submit pictures of the guys that they think are best dressed through twit pic posts sent at our twitter account. We can make a fan page on Facebook where you can wall post pics of the best dressed men also. Then when we get the winner we can do an interview article about him in the D.O. and also give him free pocket squares that he can show off around campus.

Just some ideas,

Drew

  1. It is awesome to see how jazzed you are about the product. I think the path market makes a lot of sense with utilizing the DO and what not. You might want to also think about ways to get celebrities (as you were mentioning) to be seen wearing the pocket squares. This has been an effective strategy for a lot of companies with fashion items.

  2. I think it's fantastic that you decided to bring back the pocket square, more men should wear that classy little piece of fabric - it'd make a big difference I'm sure. From what you said, it seems like you have a pretty solid business model in terms of using social media to its greatest of abilities as a way to market and popularize your product. You definitely have some great ideas, best of luck!

  3. I had google squares, but after seeing that the second picture was this:http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1090&bih=483&tbm=isch&tbnid=lj2VZlp0Pf1l0M:&imgrefurl=http://www.logansoflexington.com/welldressedman/index.php/archives/54&docid=zhuu9zJr8X2i-M&imgurl=http://www.logansoflexington.com/welldressedman/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/classic_pocket_square_thumb.jpg&w=400&h=400&ei=1EWvTsmpK-bo0QGJl-HFAQ&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=281&sig=102868670847686318499&page=1&tbnh=108&tbnw=108&start=0&ndsp=14&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0&tx=52&ty=12, I can really see were you're coming from. If you made a name for yourself, that's all it takes when you're catering to the rich and famous. Are you into design? Will your pocket squares have some new fabric or cool pattern that captures the attention pocket square lovers everywhere? Fun idea.
